Systems Development is an essential component to the implementation of an Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) system. It is during this initial phase that a scope of work is determined, ROI metrics are established, and training begins. American Barcode and RFID (AB&R) systems transform process data into information that management can use to make better decisions and more accurate forecasts.
An SRDS is a comprehensive functional specification document derived from an in-depth application analysis, consultation with all project stakeholders, and legacy software integration considerations. It stands as the "Scope of Work" template from which the entire installation is developed. An SRDS minimizes overall cost due to its comprehensive nature and the clarity with which it lays out the implementation steps.
For many application needs, a standardized software package with few customizations will be sufficient. These packages are full-featured, flexible, modularly designed, and are backed by the security of long-term support from dedicated AB&R professionals. Ongoing development, system support, solution documentation, and training are all common features of an AB&R solution.
AB&R has experienced programmers skilled in custom AIDC applications, database design, and full system integration with Legacy and ERP systems. Formal training for the entire project management team is a standard option, and support and maintenance programs are always recommended. AB&R eliminates the need for customers to change the way they do business to suit the software; AB&R can adapt software to meet the needs of the company.

The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) had over 250 offices with more than 3000 capital assets valued at $58 million in 2002. Arizonal DES had dedicated a full-time staff person to visit all of the offices throughout the state to take a manual inventory. Reports were inaccurate, inconsistent, and lists were never timely because it took a full year to account for all locations.
AB&R modified a batch WMS software package into a radio frequency (RF) system, which turned a laptop into a mobile wireless access point used from office-to-office to scan items and collect inventory instantly. This modification also included the ability for Arizona DES to sync all of its lists to a main server effortlessly.
With no increase in staff or time, Arizona DES was able to manage an additional 100 offices and assets scattered across the state. "We can go through an inventory cycle and reconciliation much more quickly now. We can generate reports more easily and the system is much more user-friendly. The best part is the significant reduction in the manual input. We've automated the record-keeping," said Howell Lindsay, Manager of Equipment Services. American Barcode's unique solution to Arizona DES's challenging situation helped the agency achieve its objectives and even handle an unexpected expansion quickly and easily.
