Mobile Warehouse Management
Enterprise Mobility in the Warehouse
Do you have manual paper processes in your warehouse that require manual data entry into your business systems? Or do you have scan-based applications that automate the collection of barcode data, which are then uploaded to our systems either periodically in real-time via batch processing or a wireless LAN, respectively? Regardless of your current procedures, enterprise mobility solutions can completely transform the way you do business, creating a highly efficient warehouse where the same staff can manage goods more rapidly and more accurately, thereby fostering the conditions necessary for your company to grow.
Enterprise mobility in the warehouse extends beyond barcode scanning and simple data collection. Implementing Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) technologies such as barcoding and radio frequency identification (RFID) at the dock door streamlines your receiving function. Congestion is eliminated, and inventory becomes available more rapidly for storage, order fulfillment, or production line replenishment.
Here's a typical scenario that explains how mobility in the warehouse can improve operational efficiencies:
An incoming shipment is identified at the dock door by reading its barcode label or RFID tag using any of the following types of equipment: a handheld mobile computer with a scanner and/or RFID reader, a vehicle-mounted reader, flexible conveyors, or fixed readers mounted near the dock door.
Once scanned, the shipment is automatically verified against the purchase order, and the proper instructions are sent to the worker's mobile device. If the items are to be shelved in the warehouse, the correct location, as well as the quickest path to that location, are sent to the mobile device of the forklift operator or other personnel. If the shipment fulfills a backorder, it is immediately staged for shipment. In the event that the wrong shipment was received, it is staged for return.
Benefits of enterprise mobility in the warehouse:
- Increased productivity - Congestion at the dock door is eliminated - Increased data accuracy - Delays in order processing are reduced - Real-time inventory visibility - Faster delivery times - Enhanced customer service
